Efim Shuravetsky

E & J Athletics Director, Australian Olympic Coach

Efim holds a degree in Sport Science and Coaching from Odessa Pedagogical Institute (Ukraine -1959) and Exercise Physiology, Health Education, Leisure and Recreation from Rusden College (Monash University, 1982).

Efim’s experience includes 16 years of coaching in Odessa (Ukraine) as the national Ukrainian and former Soviet Union Event National Coach, and one of the leading coaches in Odessa “Dinamo” Athletics Academy, which was recognised as the best track and field centre in Soviet Union in 1973.
 

Julian Shuravetsky

Julian has a Sports Science Degree. He is well qualified and experienced in multi-events, and as a pole vault Level 4 Coach. As VIS coach 1993-2000 Julian was responsible for strength and conditioning of the preparation of Olympic athletes: HIGH JUMP: Tim Forsyth, Alison Iverarity, SPRINT: Lauren Hewitt, Lee Naylor, Michael Hazel, DECATHLON: Scott Ferrier, Peter Winter. Julian also coaches decathletes in pole vault and a number of pole vaulters who won National U20 titles (Brett Styles, Stephen Cain) and were placed in Open Championship (James Miller - 2nd, Robert Hill - 3rd). Julian coached pole vaulters Rachel Dacy who represented Australia in the Commonwealth Games in Kuala Lumpur in 1998 and Irie Hill who represented England in 2002 Commonwealth Games in Manchester, and won a bronze medal. For a short period in 1995 and 1996, Julian worked in Italy under guidance of legendary track and field coach Vitaly Petrov. In 1998 Julian was employed by VIS as a Head Coach of the Philippines team during its stay in Melbourne. Later in the year, the Philippines team performed outstandingly in South-East Asian Games.

Larisa Nikitina (Tourchinskaya)

Larisa has a Sport Science degree from Moscow University, and is a Level 3 coach. She is the second best heptathlete in the world ever, current European record holder (7007 points), European Champion, 2nd in 1987 World Championship. Larisa  started coaching in 1997 when she emigrated to Australia. In 1998, Larisa assisted Julian working with Philippines team and Efim Shuravetsky in his work with the VIS athletes.

Stephen Cain

Stephen has a Sports Degree from Deakin University. Stephen is E & J Athletics product as an Athlete and a Coach. Stephen was Australian National Decathlon Champion in 2002, Australian National PV Champion in 2003. Stephen was ranked in the top 10 junior decathletes in the world in 2003 with result of 7,442 points. Stephen started coaching and successfully works with St. Kevins College team, Gippsland Academy of Sport, St. Kevins Athletics Club. In spite of his age he was elected as President of the St. Kevins AAC
